Raisin Chocolate Chip Cookies

1 cup raisins
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup mayonnaise*
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Place raisins in a bowl. Cover with boiling water; let stand for 5 minutes. Drain well and set aside.
In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugars. Beat in mayonnaise and vanilla. Combine flour, salt and baking soda; gradually add to the creamed mixture. Stir in the chocolate chips, walnuts and raisins. Drop by level tablespoonfuls 2 in. apart onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 175 degrees C for 9-11 minutes or until golden brown. Remove to wire racks to cool.
